Maybe some people don’t like the way Excel displays comments. Excel comments are used for displaying information in a cell which might be for author or users. In Excel, comments displayed when user’s mouse moves over the cell. What annoys some people is the comment can obscure data that they are trying to view. But this shouldn’t be a problem because by using the Data Validation feature to attach text to a cell, Excel will display the information only when a user selects the cell.
Do as the follow steps to use data validation to attach text to a cell.
1. Select the cell which with comment.
2. Go to the Data tab and then select Data Validation from the Data Validation dropdown in the Data Tools group. In Excel 2003, choose Validation from the Data menu.
3. In the resulting dialog box as the image shows below, click the Input Message tab.
4. Enter a title (Not Must Have) and message information. Don’t forget check the option of Show input message when cell is selected.
5. Click OK.
Do as the follow steps to use data validation to attach text to a cell.

Now, change the selection and move the mouse over the cell you will find Excel doesn’t display the text you entered. But if you select the cell, Excel displays the message.
This Excel trick uses Data Validation in an unusual way. However, it’s very easy to do it and can display Excel comments or data entry in another way.
