In Microsoft Word document, it always displays a vertical and horizontal scroll bar by default. I never thought removing them until one day I found another solution. Besides vertical and horizontal scroll, Microsoft Word offers another scrolling feature – Word’s AutoScroll feature. It’s another option especially if we support a large number of users with varying needs.
Remove Word Scroll Bars
In Word 2003, follow the steps below:
1, Go to the Tools menu and choose Options
2, Click the View tab
3, In the Show section, we can remove Vertical Scroll Bar or Horizontal Scroll Bar by unchecking them.
4, Click OK the save the change
In Word 2007 and 2010, do as the follows to remove them:
1, In Word 2010, go to File tab and choose Options in the left pane. In Word 2007, go to click Office button and then click Word Options.
2, In the left pane, select Advanced option.
3, Then, we can remove Word Scroll Bars by unchecking them in the Display section.
4, Click OK to save the changes.
Enabling Word AutoScroll
After remove Word Scroll Bars, we may benefit from enabling Word AutoScroll. This feature scrolls through a large document very fast. If we are working in a large document, this feature is awesome. To enable Word AutoScroll feature, do as the following steps.
In Word 2003:
1, Right click a toolbar and choose Customize
2, Click the Commands tab
3, Choose All Commands in the categories list.
4, From the Commands list, drag AutoScroll to any toolbar.
5, Click Close
In Word 2007 and Word 2010:
1, Go to the Quick Access Toolbar dropdown.
2, Select More Commands
3, In the Choose Commands from dropdown, select Commands “Not in ribbon”.
4, Double-click AutoScroll (or select and click Add) to update the list to the right.
5, Click OK to save the changes.
After enable Word AutoScroll feature, we can use AutoScroll by clicking the new icon on the toolbar or in the QAT (Quick Access Toolbar). Then, a small circle with a triangle above and below (AutoScroll indicator) will be displayed in the document. Drag the mouse up or down just a smidgen and Word will respond by zooming through your documents pages. If you want to disable the feature, press [Esc] or click the icon again.
